Duquesne University Writing Center

James P. Purdy

A document that has been important to our program is the evaluation form I developed so that tutors could evaluate my performance as the director. Prior to my becoming director of the University Writing Center at Duquesne, the director was not formally evaluated by the staff members. To get feedback from consultants—as well as to explicitly frame my work as director as teaching—I instituted an evaluation that consultants complete each semester. Standard course evaluations were not available to me because consultants are not required to take a class. However, gathering assessment data to document the teaching that happens internally with the staff (not just externally to writers who visit the Center) as well as to solicit consultants’ feedback and ideas was critical.
